Hello there. I'm Jeanette

MY APPROACH

I’m a counsellor and coach who works with individuals and couples with a focus on relationships, conflict resolution, and individual growth.  I believe in working with and empowering individuals to develop new coping strategies that will improve and enhance their lives.

As a Counsellor, I make use of a variety of different methods, tools and techniques depending on each client and what he or she is facing. I work with clients on a variety of issues including (among others):

  • Individuals who are going through a separation, break-up or divorce;

  • Individuals who want to work on anxiety coping strategies, building boundaries or coping with work stress;

  • Couples who wish to rebuild their emotional connection and trust;

  • Couples who wish to work on conflict management and communication;

  • Mixed agenda couples (discernment counselling)

I have received professional training in

- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

- Positive Psychology Therapy

- Emotion-focused Couples Therapy

- Discernment Counselling and

- the Gottman Method (couples therapy).

I am a certified trainer for the Gottman 7 Principles of Making Marriage Work workshop as well as a qualified educator for the Gottman Bringing Baby Home workshop. Both of these workshops focus on enhancing friendships, conflict management and creating shared meaning – all three of which are important goals in other life settings as well and not just in romantic relationships. I am also a qualified facilitator for the SYMBIS pre-marital assessment.

As a Coach, my mission is to  be an empathetic, non-judgmental and enthusiastic coach so that I can facilitate clients in self-exploration and motivating them to be the best versions of themselves, enabling them to have better relationships at home and at work.

I work with clients to explore their pasts, patterns and personalities so that they have a better understanding of their values, of their strengths and of areas where they would like to improve.

Drawing upon my experience as a couples counsellor, I will also coach my clients on effective communication, conflict management and building trust and empathy.

MY STORY

I have always been passionate about working with couples and families. Prior to becoming a counsellor, I worked as a matrimonial lawyer in Hong Kong. My work centered around issues such as divorce, ancillary relief, custody care and control and other children’s matters including applications with regard to children of unmarried parents. Working as a matrimonial lawyer, I came across many high conflict cases which have helped develop skills in communication and dealing with highly contentious and emotional situations with sensitivity and tact.

I discovered my passion for counselling and working with couples and families when I was studying Psychology in college. I worked in a relationship research lab where we studied couples and their behaviour and communication styles. We examined how these behaviours and styles can affect the longevity of their relationships. I also worked with pre-school children at a psychology lab school where I was able to study child development (and be surrounded by adorable children!).

All these experiences have brought me to where I am now. I love what I do as a counsellor and life coach because therapy and coaching makes an impact on client's lives in a way that is profound and often has a rippling and lasting effect.

A little bit more about me...

I was born in Vancouver, BC but grew up in Hong Kong. I love to travel and to experience new cultures through food, coffee and wine. I live with my husband and our adorable havanese puppy named Bruno (he will forever be a puppy in my mind!) We recently relocated to Singapore at the end of 2019 and we are excited about this new adventure.
